“Revontulet” was written for Alto Saxophone, and is named after the Finnish word for the Aurora Borealis. In Finnish folklore, the Northern Lights came to be when a little fox ran so fast through the snow that its tail created a spark, which lit the sky on fire. The word revontulet translates to fox fires, in honor of the fabled cause of this beautiful natural phenomena. In this piece, I have tried to embody both the playfulness of a little fox, and the majesty of the Aurora Borealis.
